Document management

GEM stores media of any type, such as office documents, maps, photos, PDF files, spreadsheets, links to web content, etc.

It also provides descriptive metadata about all of these, and provides a means to link such media to the quantitative data at the database level, the trial series level, the trial level, and for genetic trials, the performance index level.

A very extensible approach has been used with the linkage mechanism to allow future links to be made to additional kinds of data in the database without complicating the database design.

Each document profile may be multi-linked to a number of database entities to allow sharing of documents.

Documents are physically stored inside the SQL database.
